Don’t Wax in a Waxing Moon Phase by Maria Mercedes

Don’t Wax in a Waxing Moon Phase

Knowing what to do during a waxing moon phase has been critical to manifesting the life of my dreams. But during a waxing moon, there are certain things you should Not do.  Do you know what they are?

WAXING MOON PHASE MEANING:

waxing moon phase

The moon cycles every 28 days from New to Full to New again.  The phases of the Lunar Cycle listed in order consists of New Moon, Waxing Crescent, First Quarter, Waxing Gibbous, Full Moon, Waning Gibbous, Last Quarter,Waning Crescent until we have a new, New Moon.

The period between New and Full represents growth while the moon is waxing or growing.  During the waxing moon phase, the gravitational pull and angle with the sun transitions to reflect more and more light each day.

The period between Full and New is called waning or disseminating.  When the moon is waning, the night sky is getting darker and darker as less light reflects on the moon.

Waxing Moon Phase No No #1:

DON’T Start a Restrictive Diet, but DO Start an Exercise Regimen

Make no mistake- I’m not saying that you should eat cookie dough for breakfast, lunch, and dinner!  I’m just saying that isn’t the time for limitations and constraints.  Obviously, consult your medical professional and always follow their instructions.  I’m just encouraging to align your timing with the moon’s energy.

The waxing moon intention should be on gaining health, increasing strength, and growing healthy habits.  Try to expand your workout routine, or increasing your daily number of steps.  This is a great time to learn new recipes (healthy ones if you’re trying to lose weight.)

Since the moon is growing this is literally a time for expansion and progression.  I like focusing on promoting healing with healthy foods, exercises, and habits I can add to my life.

So, when should you diet?  Never… Just kidding.  I recommend starting diets while the moon is waning because the lunar energy is conducive to constricting and reducing but again, consult your doctor.

No No #2:  DON’T Wax, but DO Cut hair to encourage Growth

You heard me right.  The waxing moon says that don’t wax, shave, or pluck in a first quarter moon (if you can get away with it).  Hair grows faster during a waning moon.  It is as through the growth of the moon is acting as a magnet to grow hair.  Sounds crazy? Well check out the farmer’s almanac for the best days to cut hair to slow growth.  You will quickly notice that they correspond with the Waning moon- not the Waxing moon.

The waxing moon phase is very clearly the best time to cut to encourage growth. This applies to plants, hair, nails etc.  Waxing moon phase is a great time to trim nails to promote healthy growth. I recommend creating waxing moon rituals of self-care such as, facemasks, pedicures, and bubble baths! We can always use more self-care!

I don’t know about you, but I want hair on my head, not on my legs.  So, if you are so suited that you can wear long pants for a few days, shave, wax and pluck during the waning moon instead.  When I can I get on a three-week waning moon calendar rotation I notice I need to shave my legs less because I have less hair.

No No #3:  DON’T

How to dry flowers and preserve their color By JACQUELINE GULLEDG

You can hang, press and even microwave a variety of flowers.

Drying flowers can easily be done at home and is a great way to save your favorite blooms. (Photo: JP Chretien/Shutterstock)

Flowers are a beautiful addition to any setting, but the colorful blooms tend to only last for a few days or a week. Drying flowers is a great way to preserve them for display in a vase or frame in your home.

Depending on the type of flower, there are several different techniques for drying flowers that can all be easily done at home with items you have on hand.

When’s the best time to cut flowers for drying?

rosebudThe best time to cut a flower for drying is before the bloom is fully open. (Photo: Ildiko Szabo/Shutterstock)

To ensure the flowers retain the most color, cut them before they are fully open. The flowers should also dry in a dark, cool place so sunlight doesn’t fade the colors.

If you’re trying to dry a bouquet (like a wedding bouquet), it’s best to dry it as soon as you’re done using it since the flowers more than likely have been cut for at least a day. If you happen to receive cut flowers like roses, it may be tempting to leave the flowers in a vase until all the blooms fully open. However, if you really want to save the flowers for sentimental sake, you’ll want to dry them before they’re completely open.

What’s the best method for drying flowers?

Hanging

The most common (and pretty much foolproof) method is to gather the flowers in small bundles or individually and hang them upside-down. I always use a clothes hanger and rubber bands, and I tie flowers together at the stem and then

5 “Witchy” Things That Aren’t As Magical As You Think WRITTEN BY SCARLET

I don’t know about you, but when I first discovered magic was real, everything looked magical and exciting to me.

Sure, it helped that I was still a kid, so it was easy to see everything as magical back then.

But I’m sure the same thing happens to all the people who discover magick as adults too.

And like all things that are new and exciting, we want to find ways to incorporate them into our everyday lives.

And that’s great actually, and there are really effective ways to incorporate magic into our daily lives.

In fact, I see yet another post on how to incorporate magic into our daily lives pop up at least once a week. And some of these posts have really great ideas!

There are some very popular ideas on how to incorporate magic into our daily lives and mundane activities though that really make me scratch my head and wonder WHY they are so popular, because there is zero logic behind them.

Others aren’t just illogical but they are also dangerous.

So I decided to go through a few of those really popular ideas and explain what my issue with them is, and provide some alternatives.

1. DRESSING IN A WITCHY WAY

Don’t get me wrong, I love fashion as much as the next girl.

But for the love of baby Hecate, can someone explain to me why so many people seem to think that dressing like a witch can do sh*t about your magic?

Looking like a witch just means you look like a witch. It’s not a magical act. It does nothing to help your magic be more effective.

In fact, in many cases it may be a big reason why some of your spells aren’t working that well.

If you ask me, unless you’re still a teen or your in a profession where dressing like that would be considered normal or cool or helpful, dressing “witchy” is just a way to be seen as weird.

I’ve been practicing magic since before high school, yet if I was supposed to interview you for a job that has nothing to do with magic and you came in looking like you woke up and wore your costume from last Halloween then your chances of me hiring you would have plummeted before you’d even get a chance to say hello.

So next time you start wondering why your spell to get hired failed, consider the possibility that the issue wasn’t in the way the spell was executed, but in the fact that you showed up for your interview with the biggest pentagram you could find and a T-shirt proclaiming you’re a witch.

2. DRAWING WORDS LIKE “LOVE” OR “MONEY” ON YOUR COFFEE

This is another tip I’ve read hundreds of times.

Unlike the previous tip, it isn’t dangerous in any way and it won’t kill your career opportunities or social life.

But I still find it

Here’s my vision of a perfect Christmas breakfast table. Fresh croissants, some sort of baked French toast, a quiche, a plate of sliced fruits (pineapples, oranges and grapefruits) and a pitcher or an agua Fresca. Breakfast muffins on the side. Okay, now veganise it all. You guys know that I’ve made the overnight baked French toast for you, working on the croissants (or just buying vegan ones true story) and FINALLY – the quiche is here. I’m talking a filling, “eggy” Vegan Quiche that’s loaded up with caramelised onions, burst tomatoes, sautéed mushrooms and spinach and baked in a buttery flaky crust. I’m talking the kind of quiche you finish in less than 24 hours with your brother and your husband. The kind of quiche that makes you limit the other goodies to ensure you have space for one more slice.

After making these quiche muffin cups, I wanted more quiche action in my life. I mentioned in that post that my go to brunch option as a vegetarian was a slice of quiche, toast and a side salad. It made me feel like I had my life put together, ladies who brunch kinda thing. Fast forward to turning vegan (and having months on and off before that where I would just randomly hate eggs) I can finally have my cake (quiche – close enough) and

11 Ways to Save Mother Earth

chang- the-world

“Be the change you wish to see in the world.” – Mahatma Gandhi

The greatest aspirations of humankind have always been to save the world, and also save ourselves. As fallible human beings, it’s too easy getting into a mindset in which we think making a difference is impossible – but it’s not. It’s too easy to get discouraged about things going on in the world and to complain that things are going downhill.

The truth is, People are going green and saving Mother Earth through many daily preservation practices. However, there are still many people that think it is costly and time consuming, or more of a “tree-hugger” activity. This problem is that we have a tendency to try and take on either too much or too little.

However, there are little things that you can do on a daily basis to make yourself feel better while also making the world a better place.

HERE ARE 11 WAYS YOU CAN START SAVING MOTHER EARTH RIGHT NOW:

SAY HELLO TO A STRANGER.

Being so busy and stretched for time, we are all wrapped up in our own little worlds. Once in a while, you are on the receiving end of a friendly person’s warm greeting, and it feels magnificent. Reciprocate that feeling and give someone a warm “Hello!” or “Good morning!” You could just be making someone’s day!

DONATE SOMETHING.

Most of us have stuff laying around the house we no longer use. Look in your closets, on your desk, or in your drawers. Do you have any old clothing or stuff that doesn’t fit? Take it to a Goodwill or Salvation Army. Most places are happy to take your discarded items, and there is probably someone in need that can find good use for it.

RECYCLE

going-green

Recycling in today’s world is becoming a pretty easy thing to do. In the US, it’s not hard to locate a trash service that offers glass, plastic, and/or aluminum recycling deposit station. However, there are a large number of people who still continue to discard glass and aluminum items into the normal garbage can.

In reality, it only takes a few seconds to rinse cans and bottles before dropping them into the recycle bin and allowing that precious material to be re-used in an eco-friendly way.

Newspapers, notebooks, mail and most other paper products are another series of items that place a serious burden our landfills. The majority of people, although they may not realize it, toss out hundreds of

trees per year along with the daily trash. Search for community groups in your area and you might find a group of earth-friendly folks may even run paper drives. To participate, gather your old newspapers, stack them, and contact the to pick them up at your location. There are also quite a few other uses for your paper products rather than tossing it out with “yesterday’s news”.

Did you know that you can clean your windows with old newspapers?

If you’re tired of seeing small white pieces of dust and streaks on your windows after using paper towels, try old newspapers instead – you’ll be more than happy to see the results of your re-use!

VISIT SOMEONE WHO NEEDS COMPANY.

Someone at a nursing home, retirement center, or a relative close by would love to see and hear from you. Visit an orphanage or a facility for the disabled, if you’d like. Unfortunately, there are people who feel alone or abandoned by others who could use the company of a friendly person such as you!

VOLUNTEER.

Find a cause that’s near and dear to your heart and spend some time there. There are wonderful sites like http://www.voluntermatch.org and http://www.serve.gov that will match you with great causes such as feeding the homeless, caring for pets, reading to children, helping disabled veterans, rebuilding our neighborhoods, and much more.

PICK UP TRASH LYING AROUND.

“We owe it to ourselves and to the next generation to conserve the environment so that we can bequeath our children a sustainable world that benefits all.” – Wangari Maathai

This is our earth, our environment, and our responsibility. When you are strolling somewhere, and you see a piece of trash lying on the ground, what do you do? Do you take a few seconds to pick it up and dispose of it properly or just walk by? If you walk by, please pick it up.

We’ve been given this beautiful planet, and we alone are responsible for keeping it beautiful.

GROW A GARDEN.

Not only will this give you something fun to do, you will be doing your part for our environment. Think of walking outside and seeing a beautiful array of flowers or plants, knowing that you are responsible for their beauty as it can be. Pretty cool.

LEAVE THE AUTO OUT OF YOUR MOBILE

One more thing that could help you to start going green is walking a bit more. Have you ever taken a drive right up the street just to pick up bread?  Try walking or jogging next time, you’ll be surprised at the places you wouldn’t normally see driving; as well as the people you may meet! Most importantly, you’ll be saving the Earth by saving oil rather than burning it.

To save even more on gas, cut your lawn mowing in half. If you do it weekly, do it bi-weekly and so on. A luxe looking lawn is great to have but skipping an additional week before you mow again shouldn’t have an effect on the health or appearance of it. You can even use a manual push mower; your local hardware store probably still carries this type of lawnmower – you can even find them online here.

SET A POSITIVE EXAMPLE.

“The best way to not feel hopeless is to get up and do something. Don’t wait for good things to happen to you. If you go out and make some good things happen, you will fill the world with hope, you will fill yourself with hope.” – President Barack Obama

There’s something to be said about a person who sets the example for others. Whether it’s at work, home, school or out and about, there are people who are consistently well mannered and set a positive example in their attitude, speech, work ethic, and in other areas as well. This is not to say that you need to be perfect… but conducting yourself with dignity and class is something that can have a very powerful impact on others.

COMMIT TO SELF-IMPROVEMENT.

This is easier said than done, but it’s possible. Nobody changes overnight, and you shouldn’t expect to either, but great thing is that by doing any of the above nine steps, you are already committing yourself to the noble goal of self-improvement. The real challenge lies in doing the little things on a consistent basis and by taking advantage of all opportunities to change the world – one little step at a time.

SAY “I LOVE YOU” MORE OFTEN

These three small words create one VERY big statement.  When you say I love you to someone, or in
