Although we all talk about the Moon, think about the Moon, look up at the Moon, the Moon still remains a mystery to us, it has been this way for aeons, and will be for aeons to come. Because of the mystery, the Moon holds a fascination for everyone, and who can help being riveted by the beauty of a full Moon and what the Moon can reveal. The light of the Moon seems to contain a magic all its own, yet something that we all wish to share in, the allure of the Moon has a place in our hearts, as it did in the hearts of our ancestors.
The Moon has connotations for many religions, and the word Moon comes from the Greek word meaning “measure”, there are many Christian celebrations with a connection to the Moon on specific dates. The ancient Egyptians discovered that although the Moon shape shifted with precision regularly, it did not provide an accurate measure of the seasons, and there was a miscalculation by several days. The regularity of the Moon’s ability to shape shift was a way for ancient civilizations to be able to keep time, and the cycles of the Moon were the basis of the earliest calendars. Farmers needed to know when to plant and to harvest, merchants needed to know when to expect to have crops for sale. It was also necessary to have an accurate gauge of the season to be prepared for the annual flooding of the River Nile, none of which could take place without an accurate measure of time. The next calendar designed by the Egyptians was based on solar cycles, which gave them a more accurate measure of time.
There was an early awareness of the Moon’s connection to the oceans of the world and the cycles of nature, the Moon affects the creatures of the sea, many of which mate and spawn during particular cycles of the tides. Some fish are easier to catch during the full Moon, birds and animals are all affected during the phase of the full Moon, animals are more active at this time. Ancient civilizations used the Moon to predict weather patterns, and it was likely that this was thought to be magic. It is known today that tornadoes and hurricanes tend to occur during the phases of the New and the full Moon, more than any other time, and there is a tendency for more rainfall during the first quarter of the Waning Moon. The human pregnancy gestation period is calculated by lunar cycles.
There is the legend of the Moon Maiden who collects the wishes and dreams of all living creatures on earth, they are then dropped into a goblet and swirled together before they are sprinkled back on Earth and become dew. The German goddess Frigg is said to live on the Moon spinning the lives of mankind, while the Chinese goddess Ch’ang O stole the potion of immortality from her husband. She drank every drop and flew to the Moon to escape, she now lives there contentedly after being given refuge by the hare who resides on the Moon.
When building a wooden fence you want to last, lay the foundation and set the posts while the Moon is waning, then wait until the Moon’s horns point skyward, you may then
Autumn is the number one reason we moved to Massachusetts. When temperatures dropped in July in San Francisco to the high 60s and the sunny afternoon was cut off by a blanket of cold fog every day, I felt so depressed. But when the temperature climbed back up to 85 in September and left my beloved flannel shirts hanging in the closet, I felt like dying. The kids would get sun burnt apple picking, there wasn’t a red leaf in sight and hot cider was the last thing I ever wanted to drink.
It’s also my birthday next week, so I have an even deeper connection to this incredible season.
You see, Mother Earth has an intelligence, and every physical shift and change is a message on how to be in the flow, to embrace our natural power and be more ALIVE.
Fall starts with the harvest, a time when farmers pull food from the ground, harvest the wheat and the corn and get busy prepping and storing it for the winter. The animals are following suit gathering acorns and building winter proof homes. It’s a time of great activity, business, and organization. No wonder we’ve naturally chosen this time to go back to school.
We’ve been in the sign of Virgo for almost a month now which carries that same energy of business and organization. My Annabelle is a Virgo and I see her organizing her toys, crayons, spoons, and clothing all the time, totally naturally in her free time. She carries a part of this fall energy with her everywhere. Virgo is also the sign of the Great Mother. In early September, I felt myself wanting to shirk my motherhood responsibilities after a whole summer of being with the kids. But Marshall was having the hardest time adjusting to his new school (probably because he could feel my exhaustion and pulling away). So I had to sink into the natural rhythm of the season and recommit to how I wanted to mother him through this transition, while also honoring the natural energy of my own work, it was a lot to hold! When I was in the middle of unraveling this dance between wanting to go into my red tent and create and being fully present for Marshall, a Mother Deer and her Baby walked through my backyard. Message received.
The 23rd is Mabon or the Fall Equinox, the day that measures equal hours of light and dark; night and the day are the same length – balance. It is also when we move into the sign of Libra, whose symbol is the scales – again, balance. Traditionally in the Northern Hemisphere, it is a time to have a great Harvest Festival, to really celebrate all of the hard work of the year and rest after a month of the hard work of harvesting.
I define Magic as aligning with the natural power of what’s happening around us. The Goddess/God/Divine (doesn’t matter what you call it) has created a world that moves in a certain pattern (Spring, Summer, Fall, Winter) which also corresponds with the moon phases (Waxing, Full Moon, Waning, New Moon), which also corresponds with our menstrual cycle (Follicular, Ovulation, Luteal, Bleeding). This is the rhythm. We can’t stop it, we can only ignore it. But when we align our own energy and intentions with that of the seasons or moon cycle or menstrual (or all of them) we have double the power backing us up. It’s like getting on the moving sidewalk in the airport, if you get on the one going the right direction, you get to where you’re going twice as fast.
This time in autumn is telling us to celebrate, to be grateful of what we have created in our life and to contemplate balance. The magic of this is that when we are grateful for the abundance in our life, it multiplies and puts us in a high energetic vibration open to receiving more. And in a few weeks, we are going to start seeing the leaves fall off the trees and have more darkness than light – a message to release, simplify and start to go in.
In my own life, I have found that just by paying attention to the messages of the season and doing very simple rituals to root into the lessons and align myself, crazy shit happens.
Here are two rituals you can do this week to connect with the Magic of Autumn:
Divine Dinner Party
Consider gathering a few friends on Mabon (Autumn Equinox) or a night near to it for dinner at your home. Create a centerpiece with seasonal fruits and vegetables (lots of orange and red) and some orange and red candles (or any candle you have laying around, don’t over complicate it). Ask your friends to bring a dish (we are celebrating balance after all).
Set sacred space around your table. This can look like

As the receding light of the waning moon retreats into oblivion like a great ocean tide, we turn out energy inward to eliminate or re-work repetitive patterns that no longer serve us. Harness the cleansing power of this lunar phase to clear obstacles and release negative influences.
Try a weight loss spell.
If you’re trying to get in the right frame of mind for weight loss or fasting, ride the “drawing away” or receding energy of waning moon to gain some momentum.
Let go of a toxic friendship.
Use the waning moon to finally release that cyclic, dead-end relationship. You know the one. Take any items that remind you of the person and get rid of them. Write down any residual feelings, then burn the paper in a cauldron with some dried rosemary. Be free.
Instead of using your spell work to increase wealth under the waxing moon, think of reducing debt under the waning moon. It’s a totally different mindset that moves you towards less consumption, more mindful spending and greater personal freedom.
Make an offering or donation.
I think of the waning moon as a retreating tide coming to collect on the gifts brought to shore by the last wave. Send blessings out to sea so that the next full moon tide brings them back to you. Say “yes” when the cashier asks you if you’d like to donate a dollar to a children’s charity, drop a few quarters in the “Give a Penny, Take a Penny” or drop off a load at the Salvation Army.
Using a healing spell to ease grief.
Whether you recently lost a loved one, or you still grieve for one who passed long ago, if you feel ready to begin the healing process, try a spell to let go of a deceased loved one.
Leave your job to start something new.
If you’ve been thinking of transitioning to another position and you have some control over the timing, consider scheduling your last day during the waning moon. The retreating energy of the waning moon aids in letting go of the past to ready for the future.
Exorcise your home.
If you feel your house bogged down with negative energy (frequent family fighting, excessive clutter or unmanageable chaos), clean your house top to bottom. Then bring a pot of water to boil on the stove with rosemary, cinnamon sticks and lavender petals to dispel darkness and restore harmony.
Take a waning moon bath.
Fill a muslin bag or tea strainer with star anise, orange peel and bay leaf. Let it steep in your bathwater and relax in candle light. Meditate, focusing on any unwanted or residual energy from the previous moon cycle. Imagine it seeping into the water. Then, pull the bath stopper and watch your discomfort drain away.
Get a massage.
Nothing beats negative stress stored in the body like a massage. Most massage therapists are quite happy to let you bring your own oil. Blend a (skin safe!) mixture of oils for releasing negativity, bring it to your massage therapist and imagine she is massaging away your stored anxieties, fears and tensions.

Instant Aura Cleansing – Do This NOW!
Are you carrying negativity and distortion in your aura? If you don’t regularly cleanse your aura… The answer to this question is likely yes… Even if you don’t realize it! The good news is that aura cleansing can be easy.
So today, I’m going to share with you a simple and yet, powerful practice to cleanse your aura and raise the vibration of your energetic being.
Without regularly cleansing your aura, you may likely be noticing some symptoms of needing a good cleanse. Feeling sluggish? Tired? A bit off… Or maybe you’re just not really feeling like yourself?
These are all signs you’ve taken on some harsh energy and that its time to cleanse your aura!
Aura Cleansing is a key skill to learn on the Spiritual Awakening path… Let’s look at exactly how to do it now.
But first… What’s An Aura?
First a quick refresher… Your aura is, essentially the multilayered energy body that surrounds you in every moment.
Depending on your personal energetic structure that’s been created through the spiritual practices you do and through the level of your consciousness, how your aura is structured may differ a bit.
But one thing is certain. Everyone has an aura and as you go throughout your day to day life, your aura naturally takes on and absorbs energies from your surroundings.
Cleansing Detrimental Energies
So this is where aura cleansing comes in. It’s a method and process you can use to cleanse out any detrimental energies you may have taken on. Cleansing out the dense energy, thought patterns and lower vibrations of other people and places you may have taken on.
Cleansing your aura empowers you to shine with more of your authentic light, and authentic truth.
Raising Your Vibration!
Also, when your aura is cleansed so that it clearly and brightly shines around you, it has a way of raising your vibration. A clear bright aura empowers you to be able to reflect the highest divine qualities of your soul in the physical.
Your clear aura also acts as a protective mechanism. Because your aura is able to take in and store detrimental energies when it’s clear, it serves to protect you in this way.
How to Know if Your Aura Needs Cleansing?
But when the aura becomes very clouded or torn, (it can get ripped and all sorts of things) it becomes less effective in protection and can actually weigh you down.
It’s not really that your aura is weighing you down. It’s more that whatever energy the aura absorbs begins to weigh you down.
Either way, the simple remedy is of course, to cleanse your aura.
So that’s what we’re going to do now.
You Can do This On Your Own
I want you to know that you can do this process all by yourself. However, if you’re new to calling in energy, visualizing and flowing energy through your being, I do recommend that you invoke the assistance of your team of Guides, Angels and Ascended Masters of the highest Christ light.
However, as you step into more of your mastery and true sovereign divine nature, it’s not required to ask for any external help and you could do this all on your own, so both ways are fine.
But for now, to begin, let’s call in assistance.

You don’t have to be a NASA scientist, astronomer, or astrology-aficionado to appreciate the sheer awe-inspiring magic of a full moon.
It’s an experience we’ve all encountered: after a long day, you’re heading home at twilight and suddenly you notice a stunning full moon rising on the horizon. Whatever thoughts were on your mind disappear and you feel an amazing surge of energy and awe. Your connection to the natural world wakes up and you, too, begin to shine!
Full moon energy
Full moons stir up our emotions and amplify mystical powers connected to the human spirit. You take joy in watching what was once dark come into the light, your mind plays out scenes of potential chaos in a wild and untamed world while also basking in deep and uninhibited feeling that is impossible to define.
The time of the full moon is a powerful energy healing opportunity, an optimum time for meditating, recharging your energy field, and clearing your chakras. That is why so many cultures have full moon rituals and ceremonies—there’s so much pure energy in the moonlight that anything it touches can’t help but respond to its radiance and love.
Using the lunar energy of a full moon can yield incredible healing results, both physically and mentally. Full moons bathe your skin in a soft light, while also illuminating the often overlooked crevices of your subconscious—giving you insights into your spirit and soul.
Five full moon rituals that use the healing power of lunar energy:
FULL MOON RITUAL #1
Shine a light on your emotions
During the full moon, emotions are magnified. You have probably heard people blame the full moon when human behavior gets a bit wacky.
Because emotions are more easily accessible during a full moon, it’s a perfect opportunity to acknowledge and release them. By releasing strong emotions that come to light during a full moon, you’ll clear your chakras; this full moon cleansing ritual ensures that you are able to capture the full spectrum of healing energy from the full moon.
If you actively journal, you’ll see big benefits during a full moon. In addition to expressing your inner truths and feelings, it’s a good time to write out your intentions, make decisions about what you really want, and fully embrace your truest self.
Below are a few journal prompts to help you get started:
- What does my physical body most need right now?
- What environments make me feel good?
- What self-care routines most nourish and heal me?
- What am I stopping myself from doing?
FULL MOON RITUAL #2
Take a moon bath
Moonlight has holistic healing properties and is able to cleanse your mind, body, and spirit. Spending time under a full moon’s vibrant white glow is like stepping into a warm soothing bath (without the water).
Take a walk under the full moon, preferably with some of your skin exposed to its healing light. As you begin to relax, gaze up at the brilliance of the full moon and bask in its energy and love. Pay special attention to the feelings and emotions coursing through your body and in your chakras. Listen closely to your subconscious: perhaps there is a message that the moon is lighting up inside of you.
A moon bath steeps your body and spirit in purifying light, washing away negativity and leaving you fresh and renewed.
FULL MOON RITUAL #3
Tack up some dreams
What are your intentions? Your goals? Bucket list experiences?
The full moon will magnify any energy you send out, and help guide it into the welcoming embrace of the universe. Be clear and specific about what you wish to manifest and don’t be surprised when your intentions come true.

The full moon is a peak, and many feel the buzz. It’s a crescendo and sometimes brings on a reckoning, or a moment of truth. It’s associated with illumination since it lights up the dream time landscape.
At the full moon, the luminaries, the sun and moon, are always in opposite Zodiac signs. The polarity brings heightened tension, as balance is sought between the two extremes.
Waxing and Waning Moon
When the moon has been waxing (increasing), set new moon intentions, and be ready to act. In the hum of the jolty energies, there can be epiphanies about things that were vague desires at the new moon.
Make it real, with tangible actions, perhaps a ritual that signifies you’re ready to integrate your intent. Stay open to surprise, too, and divine inspiration.
Every month, you have a chance to experience a fresh start. The moon’s waxing and waning are like the shortest hand on the cosmic clock. The intentions we set with the moon can get specific, and match the traits of the sign that month.
This is a way to stay attuned to cosmic currents and go with the flow. It’s a constant in a chaotic time, that the moon waxes and wanes. Each lunation is a chance to set new goals, and feel closer to a bigger mystery.
Full Moon Intentions
This word is used a lot and is interchangeable with the word goals. Perhaps, though, it suggests an active engagement in what you’re co-creating with the universe.
Your intent is what you intend to create in your life. Some like to create Vision Boards at the New Moon. But the amped-up energies and clear sight make the full moon ideal for dreaming-while-awake.
Preparing for the Full Moon
Each full Moon has a different intuitive feel, and any ritual you do could draw on the essence of the sign. As it approaches, you might gather photos, found objects, meaningful totems, and place them with your intentions in a prominent place. You might light a candle in a simple full moon ritual.
Time to Celebrate
The full moon often casts an exuberant vibe, making it a great time to have a party. This also opens the door for meaningful people to step into your life. But keep in mind that it can be intense, too. There’s a reason why more patrolmen are sent out on full moons. Take time to honor yourself in some way for any steps you took since the new moon.
The Climax and the Big Reveal
Sometimes full moons feel like the end of an act in your ongoing life story. It’s like in a movie where all the plot points are pulled together, and for a brief moment, you can see the interwoven whole. If you set intentions, the full Moon is a time when you begin to make out the path and can take an exciting step forward. It is both a culmination and a time to act on something you’ve imagined. In the act of doing, you have brought an idea into reality and made magic.
